Within the field of computer science, cybersecurity is essential for safeguarding individuals and organizations online. For students to develop an interest and be equipped with essential cybersecurity skills, it is vital that learning experiences are engaging. Despite its importance, gaps persist in understanding the impact of different teaching methods on student engagement in short-term, informal educational settings. This study builds on prior cybersecurity education research and investigates the effective use of diverse teaching methods within an outreach program. Using pre and post-surveys, exit tickets, and observation protocols, this research explores how various pedagogical strategies influence student engagement in learning cybersecurity topics. These findings show that interactive activities, such as games and group work, significantly enhance engagement compared to traditional lectures. Technology use and peer interactions also play key roles in maintaining high engagement levels. This work underscores the need for engaging, hands-on learning experiences to foster student interest and equip them with crucial cybersecurity skills.
